Art
During the Spring 2009 semester in Middle & High School Art, the artists begin studying the Art of an Emerging Modern Europe, and discover the first uses of the vanishing point. We discover the unparalleled contributions of artists from the Italian Renaissance era of rebirth, and learn how the continue growth of Christianity influenced the artists of the time. We trace the spread of the Renaissance into fifteenth-Century Northern Europe, and we explore the art of the great Venetian school and the conflicts that arose in northern Europe, spending time learning how northern European artists incorporated Christian visual symbolism into their works. We meet Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangleo, Jan van Eyck (realized potential of oil paint), Hieronymous Bosch, and El Greco. We create a still life demonstrating visual textures, design a Visual Symbol and Paint a Bizarre Creature, mimicking Albrecht Dürer. In addition to the above, High School will also create a mixed media triptych of their autobiographical life pilgrimage.
