Congratulations to three of our high school band students who were selected to participate in New Mexico All State Honor Groups. These students auditioned in November and were selected among hundreds of students from across New Mexico to perform in Albuquerque on January 9. Josh Bencomo, a junior, and Christine Kaiser, a freshman, performed in the New Mexico All State High School Small School Honor Band. Anthony Torres, a sophomore, was selected to perform in the Honors Symphonic Concert Orchestra.

Hundreds of the top high school musicians from across the State of New Mexico came together to rehearse January 6, 7 and 8 ending with a performance on January 9 at Pope Joy Auditorium on the campus of the University of New Mexico. These students had the opportunity to work with guest conductors from across the country. This was a wonderful experience for our students, and a testament to the quality of our students in the MVCS band program.

MVCS Battle of the Bands

The competition is open to all church youth and home-schooled groups whose band members are in high school or middle school. Proceeds will be used toward the MVCS choir/band spring performing arts tour to California.  Please click here for details.

On February 14, 2010, MVCS sophomore percussionist, Anthony Torres, performed in Southwest Honor Band I at New Mexico State University. High school students from across the state of New Mexico and El Paso auditioned in December. Two bands were established from the hundreds of musicians who audition to have the opportunity to perform under the direction of guest conductors. Congratulations to Anthony Torres and Mr. Robinson, MVCS Band Director.
