Elementary Jan Term 2009-10
Jan Term 2010 kicked off the new semester for MVCS elementary students. Students in grades K-5 spent each day centered around themes such as arts, crafts, drama, theater, science, experiments, safety and much more! MVCS Elementary hosted Explora from Albuquerque, the Las Cruces Fire Department and the US Border Patrol. MVCS students visited the residents at the Good Samaritan Nursing home and presented the creation story with musical instruments. Third grader Sarina Johnson had this to say, “My favorite part of Jan Term was mask making because you could make your own mask.”
Secondary Jan Term 2009-10
January 4-8 saw students excited about coming back to school at MVCS after the Christmas break. From China to California, from cooking to community service students had almost 50 choices of trips or enrichment classes. Crazy for Cookies with Mrs. Owensby was a favorite – many wanted to get in this class even after it had reached the class size limit. We had students skiing in Ruidoso and others traveling around Las Cruces learning about local history and art. Students improved their skill in archery, basketball, and fire arms. Scrapbooking, working with clay, jazz music, and dance appreciation were some of the hobbies students were introduced to during the week. We had six new students on campus during Jan Term – it was a great way for them to meet new people in a more relaxed atmosphere. Stepping Out, our community service oriented class, is in the process of turning into a club here at school. The students were so excited about helping others, they asked Mrs. Tillery to continue it as a club. As one of the students said, “It feels so good to help others.” While it is still 11 months away, Mrs. Mouttet and Mrs. Blanchard are already thinking about next year. They would like your input. There is a survey on the school web site which you can print out and turn in to the school office for them. If you would like to teach a class or chaperone a trip next year, let them know and they will keep you in mind, jmouttet@mvcsonilne.com.
